Biography:
Matthew Brown was born in Russellville, Arkansas in 1981. He graduated from the Arkansas School for Mathematics and Sciences (now known as the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts) in 2000 with a focus in the Computer Sciences. Mr. Brown then enrolled in Hendrix College as an Arkansas Governor’s Distinguished Scholar and while at Hendrix completed a semester abroad at Birkbeck College, University College London in London, England. Mr. Brown earned his Bachelor of Arts in History degree from Hendrix College in 2004, and enrolled in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.
In law school, Mr. Brown was a member of the UALR Law Review where he served as an Associate Notes Editor. Mr. Brown’s case note regarding the Supreme Court’ decision of Rumsfeld v. Forum for Academic & Institutional Rights, Inc., 126 S. Ct. 1297 (2006)—the first major decision of the Roberts Court—was selected for publication by the editorial board. 29 UALR L. Rev. _____ (Winter 2006). Mr. Brown was also chosen as a member of the UALR Trial Team, which competed against other schools around the nation.
During his third year of law school, Mr. Brown participated in the UALR Legal Clinic where as a student practitioner he had the opportunity to represent indigent clients. Mr. Brown’s crowning achievement as a student practitioner was achieving the dismissal of several felony charges against a juvenile client through persistent fact investigation.
Mr. Brown first began his employment with Jack Nelson Jones Fink Jiles & Gregory, P.A. in 2001 as a runner and office assistant in the firm’s Conway office while attending college. Mr. Brown continued to work for the firm through law school and clerked for the Firm exclusively during 2005–2007.
Family: Mr. Brown is married to Ashlea Brown, who is also an attorney. The couple resides in Conway with their two Beagles, Stonewall Jackson and Claire Puppy.
